Slovenia: 26th July - 2nd August

I would like to remind everyone that I am leaving for a tour of Slovenia in the early hours of Monday 26th July.
I will not return until Monday 2nd August at roughly 11.30PM.

For the duration of this tour, I will have no internet access, so the site will be placed under the control of the three other administrators (MDC, Medessec, and Jesan) until I return.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

Distributed Denial of Service attack on nameservers

I regretfully need to announce that our nameserver provider is currently undergoing a DDOS attack.

This is affecting all services provided by ns1.thegineverblock.com through ns3.thegineverblock.com, including TGB itself.

For now, you can modify your hosts file, adding "70.87.208.2 www.thegineverblock.com", to avoid nameserver downtime.

Hopefully this issue will be mitigated soon.

Scheduled power outage

There will be a scheduled power outage today, starting at roughly 12.15 PM, because British Gas apparently need to change an electricity meter.

The following services will be down:
pineapple.dsp.ginever.net
ns1.thegineverblock.com
ns2.thegineverblock.com
ns3.thegineverblock.com

If you need access to The Ginever Block during this period and can't connect (instead seeing "The page cannot be displayed"), this is because the nameservers are down. You can temporarily add the line "70.87.208.2 www.thegineverblock.com" to "C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" using Notepad to avoid the issue.

Essential maintainence to be carried out on the VPN servers

As part of this summer's overall tidyup and cleanout, I will be doing essential maintainence to the VPN servers. Once maintainence is completed, they will either be phased out, or transitioned to become part of the Ginever Service Alliance Dedicated Server Pool (DSP).

The following systems will be affected by this rule:

VPNA LONDON (vpna.thegineverblock.com)
This will now identify itself as lightspeed.dsp.ginever.net, London, United Kingdom.
The server is run by LightSpeed Gaming LLC and hosts the Ventrilo voice chat service.
Access via the old address (vpna.thegineverblock.com) will continue to be available until further notice, so that people don't have to reconfigure Ventrilo.

VPNB PARIS (vpnb.thegineverblock.com)
This is the former radio relay server operated by Colin of UK Internet Radio.
No more services will be offered from this location, and access to the server via this address will disappear over the next few weeks.
A replacement relay server is already available and identifies itself as stream.ginever.net, United Kingdom

VPNC WOLVERHAMPTON (vpnc.thegineverblock.com)
This will now identify itself as pineapple.dsp.ginever.net, Wolverhampton, United Kingdom
Pineapple, also known as Shaz, is a server which is operated by RJD Enterprise Solutions UK.

DYNAMON
This is a new server which has been set up by Medessec on an experimental basis.
It will identify itself as dynamon.dsp.ginever.net, Elk Grove, California

As a result of this migration to a Dynamic Server Pool, VPNC/Pinapple will randomly go offline while maintainence is carried out (I am installing a new hard drive, reinstalling Windows, and hopefully replacing the power unit, as the existing one is very noisy and prevents me from sleeping). Once maintainence is complete, I intend for it to become a fully operational server that runs 24/7 and provides essential services to Ginever.net.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

Return of the Medessec Skin!

I would like to announce that the upgraded version of the Medessec Skin is now available to beta test. Please do not report any 'green' bugs (areas being green when they should be orange) - I've fixed most of them and the remaining green-bugs will be fixed ASAP.

Any bugs that AREN'T things being green should be reported to me either by responding to this topic, or via PM or MSN.
